A San Diego County native, David earned his degree in Political Science from San Diego State University and holds graduate degrees in Finance and Accounting. He spent the first eight years of his professional career in commercial banking and the next eight years as Chief Financial Officer of a small family-owned corporation involved in public and private construction projects. In 1998, David was hired by the San Diego County Office of Education as the Business Manager for the Regional Occupational Programs. In 2008, he moved to the position of Executive Director of Finance and Accounting at San Marcos Unified School District. David enjoys spending his free time with his family.
ProfessionalResponsibilities: The Executive Director of Finance and Accounting together with a staff of ten: one senior accountant, two staff accountants and seven accounting technicians, manages the District’s budget, accounts receivable and payable, general ledger, fixed assets and payroll activities. The department develops, monitors and updates all District program budgets and prepares all state and federal reports for general fund and categorical program activities. The office directly supports all District schools and departments. Finance and Accounting is also responsible for the successful preparation of District accounting records for the annual audit.
Goals of the AccountingDepartment: The Accounting Department’s goal is to provide accurate recordkeeping to assure that we maximize the District’s assets and to operate in a manner that ensures compliance with all Local, State and Federal regulations that impact the financial status of the District. Our focus is to provide the Administration and the Governing Board with the most accurate and timely financial data to support educational decisions for the District’s children. Our major areas of responsibility include: Budgeting, Payroll,Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Financial Analysis, Reporting and General Accounting.
