Welcome to all of our returning and new students as well as their families to Alvin Dunn Elementary School! I am filled with gratitude to begin the 2016-17 school year as principal, working together with the amazing staff, wonderful families, and outstanding students at Alvin Dunn. I know our year together and the years to come will be filled with greatness in learning as we have become a fully authorized International Baccalaureate World School. Last year we were honored with State Recognition of our great program. Our school received both a Gold Ribbon Award for program excellence as well as a Title I Academic Achievement Award. Alvin Dunn is really going places. In the coming years we look forward to expanding our school program to a K-8 school.
One of our main goals is that all students will continue to meaningfully increase their academic knowledge in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. We understand that education is very important to the future of our students and will make sure we help them become active, inquiring, life-long learners who will be prepared for college and career as well as for global citizenship.
Our teachers and staff are committed to increasing our students' knowledge by engaging them in units of study that are relevant, challenging, and globally significant. They will model and foster all of the attributes of the International Baccalaureate learning profile. We will insure success in reaching these goals by their daily application of best instructional practices which include differentiated instruction at all academic levels. We are fortunate to have an infrastructure that includes wireless ports throughout the school. This will support the one to one personal devices( iPads and iPods) in all our 1st- 6th grade classrooms and support the future expansion of personal devices. In addition, our teachers will continue the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. With the introduction of these standards, our students will begin moving towards more integrated, project based learning.
I would like to encourage all families to take an active role in your child's learning experiences at Alvin Dunn. With our entrance into the International Baccalaureate program it is our hope that we develop more connections with our families each and every day. Please join us at home and support our efforts to teach our students to respect the diversity in our school and in the world around us, ultimately helping to create a better and more peaceful world.
I look forward to the journey ahead.
