Substitute teachers provide a valuable service to our students and District, and we appreciate the efforts and contributions substitute teachers provide in the absence of the classroom teacher.

Detailed information on the substitute teacher application process has been provided for you below under "Substitute Teacher Information."

 2nd Annual Substitute Teacher Award Reception

San Marcos Unified School District presents a Golden Apple Award to the top 50 substitute teachers who have completed the most assignments each month.  Substitute teachers who received a Golden Apple Award in any month during the 2016-2017 school year were invited to attend our annual award reception.

We also recognized the top 50 substitute teachers who completed the most assignments for the entire 2016-2017 school year by presenting them with the 2016-2017 Golden Apple Award Pin. 

Our Annual Substitute Teacher Award Reception allows us the opportunity to show our appreciation to the dedicated substitute teachers of San Marcos Unified School District.

WHAT WILL I NEED BEFORE I CAN APPLY TO YOUR SUBSTITUTE TEACHER POOL?



1.     Current California Teaching Credential

           OR

          30-Day Emergency Substitute Permit

      OR

      
Valid Temporary County Certificate (TCC) issued by 
      San Diego County Office of Education

2.     Fingerprint Clearance through both:

           >  California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
                  Form 41-LS   $75

           >  San Diego County Office of Education Fingerprint
                  Clearinghouse (SDCOE)
                  Clearinghouse Live Scan   $58


I DON’T HAVE A TEACHING CREDENTIAL. WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR A 30-DAY EMERGENCY SUBSTITUTE PERMIT?


 


1.   Official Transcripts Showing Your Bachelor’s Degree or
          Higher

2.    Basic Skills Requirement – Completion of CBEST

I HAVE A TEACHING CREDENTIAL or 30-DAY EMERGENCY SUBSTITUTE PERMIT, AND I HAVE BEEN CLEARED THROUGH THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION FINGERPRINT CLEARINGHOUSE.  WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP?


 
 


Apply for our posting online at Edjoin.org under San Marcos Unified School District.  Please be prepared to have the following five (5) documents available to upload to your Edjoin.org application:  

1.   Letter of Introduction

2.   Current Resume

3.   Valid California Teaching Credential or 30 Day
          Emergency Substitute Permit

4. and 5.    Two (2) Current Letters of Recommendation
                              (must included handwritten signatures).
                           Typed signatures will not be accepted.  

Applications that are incomplete or missing attachments will be screened out of the posting.

We accept applications for the substitute teacher pool throughout the school year.  Our substitute teacher pool consists of substitute teachers who remain active in our district by completing assignments on a regular basis.

Your application will be screened and, if selected, you will be notified through Edjoin.org by email with additional instructions.  If you were not selected, you will also be notified by email, and you should feel free to apply for future postings.  

Due to the number of applications received, we are unable to respond to inquiries about the status of your application.
