Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher for San Marcos Unified School District, we have expedited the hiring process for student teachers assigned to our District with just a few simple steps.

 
 
HOW TO BECOME A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
 

1.     Apply online at Edjoin.org and attach copies of your 30 Day Substitute Permit and
        Negative TB Test 

2.     Complete New Hire Packet - Student Teacher, then print (make sure all fields are
        complete and include signatures - do not print double sided)
 

3.     Take Mandated Reporter Training Course and print completion certificate 

4.     Review Safety Manual and Substitute Teacher Handbook

 
5.     Scan and email completed New Hire Packet to jenny.veloz@smusd.org
 
6.     Wait for confirmation email from Jenny Veloz 
 
7.     Confirmation received, Congratulations! 
  


SALARY RATES FOR SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS 

 

       Daily Rate

7.5 Hours

$  120.00

 

    Half Day Rate

3.75 Hours

$    60.00

 

    Long Term Rate

On 21st Day

$  130.00

 The following daily pay rates apply only at secondary schools:

    

     6/5ths Rate

 

 
Teaching 6 periods (no prep period)

 

$  140.00

 

     7/5ths Rate

Teaching 7 periods (no prep period)
