Hello Paloma Families,
What is the PTO and Who Can Be a Member?
The purpose of the PTO is to unite families, inspire kids, and support them so they can reach their full potential. We do this by building strong, constructive relationships between students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other schools in the San Marcos Unified School District. We bridge the gap left by insufficient district and state funds to provide academic opportunities for all students. We also engage parents in volunteer opportunities whenever possible to promote success in our programs and fundraising efforts.
Parents/guardians of Paloma students are members of the PTO. A parent/guardian can decide what role they want to play in the PTO, whether it’s holding a position on the board, volunteering for programs and fundraising efforts, or donating funds.
PTO Programs & Fundraising
The PTO funds many programs within Paloma Elementary. Two of the most integral programs are Luminary Arts and the Computer Lab Tech. Luminary Arts is a visual and performing arts program which enhances problem solving skills, critical thinking, and cross-curriculum learning in all subjects. It exposes students to a variety of cultures, creating opportunities for tolerance, empathy and openness to working with others, and it encourages innovation, creation, and imagination-skills needed for success in the 21st century workforce.
The PTO helps the district finance a full time Computer Lab Tech. The Computer Lab Tech is responsible for ensuring that students are comfortable using technology. Additionally, the students are provided the knowledge needed to work toward mastering technology-based skills that will enable them to be successful with their school-work, online assessments, and testing. If time permits, the students will be introduced to basic coding and robotics as the year progresses.
The PTO needs moms, dads, grandparents, family members, friends, and neighbors to volunteer their time. There are many volunteer opportunities within the PTO, and whether you volunteer two hours during the school year, or two hours a week, anything is helpful. By working together, we can support faculty efforts to ensure your child’s academic success. Please fill out a volunteer form and return it to your child’s teacher, or you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On behalf of the PTO and all the volunteers, we wish everyone a productive year ahead and look forward to your continued support.
“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.” Jane D. Hull
