2021-22 Learning Optionsstudents jumping fall 2021 planning in-person learning 5 days a week

SMUSD is planning to offer full-time in-person instruction five days per week for all students in the 2021-22 school year. Health and safety measures for the fall are unknown at this time. While in person, 5 day a week instruction is the best option for the vast majority of our students, we realize some families need an alternative learning model for their child.

Families seeking a fully remote learning option for fall can choose from Foothills K-5 Homeschool Program or Foothills 6-12 Independent Study Program.

Students at Mission Hills High and San Marcos High schools will have the option to enroll in Blended Learning where they will have the opportunity to take one class remotely during 0 or 7th period.

More information on the learning models being offered can be found here: Elementary Learning Options (Grades K-6) or Secondary Learning Options (Grades 6-12)

     • Do families need to register for school or enroll in a learning model for fall?
Registration is not necessary for current SMUSD families with students matriculating to the next grade level. Families new to SMUSD should register as soon as possible via our online enrollment portal. We are planning for a return of all students, regardless of their current learning model.

     • What should families do if they are interested in a fully remote, alternative learning option?
Families seeking an alternative learning experience for fall should visit Foothills' website for more information. Fall enrollment for the fully remote learning option is now open; click here to register.

    • Will the COVID-19 vaccine be required for fall?
State laws dictate vaccination requirements. Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine is not a requirement for school entry. Immunization requirements for public schools can be accessed on the CA Department of Public Health website.

   • Will the Kids on Campus (KOC) extended day program be offered for fall?
KOC has traditionally operated at 9 elementary school sites. Based on a recent survey, there is enough interest to plan for the return of KOC in the upcoming school year. Please visit the KOC webpage for updates.

Information will continue to be shared with families as back-to-school, in-person plans evolve.
