Elementary Learning Options 2021-22

SMUSD is planning to offer two learning models for students in grades K - 5. When selecting a learning model, please keep in mind your student will be required to remain in that learning model for the entire 2021-22 school year (switching from one learning model to the other will not be permitted).

Option 1: Full-time, in-person instruction, 5 days a week

Option 2: Foothills K-5 Homeschool Program (Updated June 16, 2021 - At this time, we are researching the feasibility of the K-5 homeschool alternative option due to a lack of interest. A final decision regarding this program will be made in August. Families who are looking to homeschool for the 2021-22 school year should not wait until August to enroll their child; we recommend you enroll in a homeschool program through one of the charter schools in our area.)
  • Parents/Guardians are the student's primary instructor.
  • SMUSD will provide parents/guardians with lesson plans, curriculum, and materials.
  • Parents/Guardians and students are required to meet weekly with the Independent Study Teacher.
  • Parents/Guardians will administer SMUSD's local diagnostics and benchmark assessments as well as state testing.
  • Students will be enrolled in Foothills and not their school of residence.
