Secondary Learning Options 2021-22
SMUSD will offer three learning models for students in grades 6 - 12.
Option 1: Full-time, in-person instruction, 5 days a week
Option 2: Foothills 6-12 Independent Study Program
In compliance with Assembly Bill 130, SMUSD will offer an Independent Study option utilizing an online platform in which students follow a self-paced curriculum from home.
- SMUSD-aligned middle and high school core and elective courses including advanced placement courses.
- Foothills 6-12 is an accredited independent study program; all courses meet SMUSD and college entrance requirements.
- Flexible scheduling and pacing; students work at their own pace and asynchronously.
- Students are required to meet with their assigned monitoring teacher.
- Students will be enrolled in Foothills and not their school of residence.

Option 3: Blended Learning (only available to high school students enrolled at MHHS or SMHS)
- Students have the option to take either their English Language Arts or History class in the Blended Learning program.
- Blended Learning classes are only available during 0 or 7th period.
- Students will engage in self-paced, self-directed course work; they will be required to meet weekly with their monitoring teacher.
- Blended Learning cannot be used to accelerate credit completion.
- Students will have the opportunity to participate in all site activities including ASB, athletics, and band.
