Spencer Wavra, Ed.D.

Director, Special Programs

With over twenty years in the field of public education, Dr. Spencer Wavra has both teaching and administrative experience at the elementary, secondary, and county levels. Beginning his career as a middle school Social Studies and Special Education teacher, he has held numerous site and district leadership positions, including Assistant Principal, Principal, and Director of Special Education. Most recently, Dr. Wavra served as the Principal of San Marcos Middle School from 2017 to 2021.

As a proud San Marcos Unified School District parent and community member, Dr. Wavra holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Redlands, as well as a Master of Arts and Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University.

Department Background

The Special Programs Department is responsible for distribution and management of categorically funded state and federal programs, such as Title I, Title III, LCAP, ASES, ASSETS, Parental Involvement, English learner summer school, and Federal Program Monitoring.
