Pima Medical Institute Partners with Twin Oaks High School to Launch Veterinary Assistant Program
Posted on 10/19/2021

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2021) – Pima Medical Institute continues to show its commitment to the communities it serves with a new veterinary assistant program launching at Twin Oaks High School, one of the high schools in the San Marcos Unified School District.

Aimed at providing students with a clear pathway from high school to higher education, this program will create an opportunity for graduates to transfer credits into Pima Medical Institute’s veterinary sciences programs. However, it is not only aimed at students whose path includes continued education. This program will provide the quality education Pima Medical Institute is known for. That means students who successfully complete this program can also enter the workforce more quickly.

“This partnership is a prime example of private/public educational partnerships benefiting students and saving taxpayers money,” said Fred Freedman, Pima Medical Institute CEO. “Twin Oaks’ incredible students have the focus and determination to prepare in High School for options upon graduation.  With the support and vision of Principal Garth Phillips and the staff at Pima Medical Institute, students can reach their career goals with relative ease.”

In collaboration with Dr. Andy Johnsen, Superintendent of the San Marcos Unified School District and utilizing an already established partnership with the San Marcos Promise, students in this program will have opportunities for job shadowing and internships with local veterinary clinics.

Students will get a high-caliber education being taught by instructors from Pima Medical Institute, but they will still be Twin Oaks High School graduates after completing their program.

“Pima Medical’s commitment to our students is going to give them opportunities they might not have had without this partnership,” said Garth Phillips, Twin Oaks High School Principal. “This collaboration is a great example of the good that can be done when institutions pool their resources and work together."

Pima Medical Institute has been developing community partnerships since the birth of the medical career college back in 1972. And, one of its most innovative initiatives just might be its growing list of high school partnerships. Current partnerships include high schools in Arizona, California and Washington, with more on the horizon.
