LumiSight LogoBeginning on October 20, 2020, the San Marcos Unified School District will be using an app called LumiSight for COVID-19 screening in order for all staff and students to be cleared to come to work or school. More information about accessing the app and creating an account will follow later this week. Please stay tuned!

What is LumiSight and why is SMUSD using it?
LumiSight is a self-screening platform that makes it easy for individuals to provide a daily self-attestation (self-check) of their health status before leaving their home, entering a work environment, or going to a campus. Daily screening of an individual’s health is strongly recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and California Department of Public Health as part of school reopening plans. This behavior should become part of our new norm to support the well-being of our staff, students, and the community.

With over 3,000 staff and approximately 20,000 students returning to campuses in the coming months, the LumiSight app will help SMUSD ensure a safe and successful reopening by managing the sheer volume of daily screenings.

How does LumiSight work?
Users will log in to a web or mobile application and perform a quick check-in. The screening will be worded as “yes” or “no” questions and the app will not gather medical information on specific symptoms. Users will immediately receive guidance (green or red image or badge) on whether they can go to their work or campus environment or if they need to stay home that day.

Will staff and students be required to use LumiSight?
Yes, all staff and students will be required to complete the screening process in LumiSight before entering school or their workplace each day.

Why is it important that everyone participate?
A safe and successful reopening depends on everyone honestly answering the screening questions. It is crucial that students and staff stay home when they are sick, notify the District if they have had close contact with a positive COVID-19 case, and inform the District immediately if they test positive for COVID-19. The LumiSight app is meant to support that process.

How will the information I enter be used?
The information will be used solely by the designated SMUSD system and SMUSD COVID response leadership to help monitor the health of the community and respond to events that may affect the health and safety of the community. At the request of the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, specific information may be shared to assist with official contact tracing efforts. Information will NOT be used for any commercial purposes, nor for any other purposes unrelated to SMUSD COVID response efforts.

What questions will be asked for the screening?
1) Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms that you cannot attribute to another health condition (Cough, Muscle or body aches, Sore throat, Nasal congestion/runny nose, Fever greater than 100.0 or chills, Fatigue, New loss of taste or smell, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Headache, Congestion or runny nose, Nausea or vomiting, Diarrhea, Loss of appetite)?
2) Do you have a fever of 100.0 or greater?
3) Have you come into close contact (within 6 feet) with someone who has a laboratory- confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in the past 14 days?
4) Has a health care provider or public health official advised you to quarantine (stay home) during this period?
5) Have you received a positive COVID-19 test result since the last time you were on campus?

Am I expected to take my own temperature at home?
Yes, part of the screening process is the taking of your temperature. The app will ask if you have a fever of 100.0 or greater. This implies that the individual has checked their temperature prior to answering this question. You do not have to enter the temperature reading in the app.

What if I don’t have a smartphone?
The LumiSight app can be accessed via web browser or mobile app (Android or iOS) and can be set to provide reminder notifications by email or mobile phone push notifications to remind users to complete their check-ins. Users who prefer to use a web browser (from a computer or a smartphone) will have access to the full app capabilities.

What if I don’t have a computer?
Since SMUSD began the year with remote learning and is continuing with hybrid learning, all students have either personal devices or they have been issued an SMUSD Chromebook. Parents should use their student’s device to complete the check-in process if they do not have one of their own.

When/how can I download the mobile app?
The initial rollout of LumiSight for SMUSD will only allow the option for the web app, which will display neatly on a smartphone screen. It has all the same functionality as the mobile app. Once we are ready for Phase II and the mobile app is configured, the SMUSD community will be notified to download it. It will be available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Privacy and Information Sharing
The LumiSight app is designed by the SMUSD in partnership with DataHouse. LumiSight is HIPPA compliant and has consented to SMUSD’s student privacy agreement. Authorized individuals from SMUSD and DataHouse have access to the information you enter, subject to the Privacy Policy that users will consent to when creating an account. Only the check-in responses (answers to “yes” or “no” questions) are stored. The app does not ask for, nor does it store any, medical symptom information. Your information will NOT be used for commercial purposes, nor any other purposes inconsistent with the purpose of conducting the daily health screenings.
