COVID-19 Dashboard

All confirmed COVID-19 cases connected to San Marcos Unified school sites and District facilities will be posted to this page. This unofficial dashboard will not include community-related cases for those individuals who have not come onto campus within close contact* of other students and staff. Only positive COVID-19 cases, confirmed by the local public health department, of individuals who have been within close contact* of others during District-supervised instruction or activities will be added to this dashboard. Once we receive notification of an individual who has tested positive at a school site or District facility, the following protocols will be implemented:

  • Isolate case and exclude from school for 10 days from symptom onset or test date
  • Identify close contacts*, quarantine and exclude exposed contacts for 14 days after the last date the case was present while infectious
  • Recommend testing of contacts, prioritize symptomatic contacts (but will not shorten 14-day quarantine)
  • Disinfection and cleaning of classroom and primary spaces where case spent significant time
  • Follow any additional recommendations from local public health department

*Close contact is defined as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated.

Below is a list of all confirmed COVID-19 cases related to SMUSD school sites and offices. This unofficial dashboard is updated once a week and when we are notified of confirmed cases.

Contact tracing will begin upon initial report of a positive case. Please note only the local public health department can confirm positive COVID-19 cases. Cases will be added to this dashboard as we receive confirmation from the local public health department of positive COVID-19 cases. This could result in a delay of cases appearing on this dashboard or a discrepancy between the number of notifications received and actual number of confirmed cases (when the case is not confirmed positive by the public health department).

Exposure: school closure

When a COVID-19 exposure has been identified, the areas of the school or District facility where the exposure occurred will be temporarily closed for cleaning and disinfection. The Maintenance and Operations Department is notified to begin COVID-19 cleaning procedures.

CDPH has provided guidance when a school or district closure is warranted. This guidance includes the following:

  • School Closure: May occur when (1) there are multiple cases in multiple cohorts at a school or (2) when at least 5% of the total number of students/staff have cases within a 14-day period, and in consultation with the local public health department.
  • District Closure: Should occur (1) if 25% or more of schools in a district have closed due to COVID-19 and (2) in consultation with local public health officials.

To help prevent community spread of COVID-19, parents/guardians must notify the District if their child(ren) or anyone in their immediate household tests positive for COVID-19. Please refer to the following documents for details:
