E-bike Safety Program

E-BIKE & BICYCLE PERMIT PROGRAM

San Marcos Unified School District, in partnership with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and the City of San Marcos, is offering e-bike and bicycle safety workshops for students who ride to and from school. These sessions focus on improving rider safety in areas of our community with the highest e-bike and bicycle use and align with the City of San Marcos’ new e-bike ordinance, which requires riders to be 12 years of age or older.

SMUSD E-BIKE AND BICYCLE PERMIT REQUIREMENT

Students who ride an e-bike or bicycle to and from Double Peak School, San Elijo Middle School, San Marcos Middle School, Woodland Park Middle School, Mission Hills High School, or San Marcos High School are required to obtain a permit. Students without a permit will not be allowed to park on school grounds.

Ready to Ride? How to Get Your Permit

  • Attend an in-person safety workshop with at least one parent or guardian, led by the Sheriff’s Office. Students must bring their bike or e-bike and helmet.
  • Students may attend any listed session, regardless of school.
  • Upon completion, students will receive SMUSD permit stickers for their bike and helmet.
